“The Ceremony of the Keys” at the Tower of London

The ‘Ceremony of the Keys’ is the traditional locking up of the Tower of London which has taken place every night, without fail, for at least 700 years. Although the reigning Monarch no longer lives here the safety of this royal palace is still important as it houses the Crown Jewels and many other valuables. The ceremony begins when the Tower is closed to the public and a Yeoman Warder (Beefeater) escorts you into the Tower. A short history of the Tower of London and the Keys ceremony is given before the display starts at 9.53 pm precisely. An event not to be missed and early booking is advised.
